Outcome
Primary custody secured on relocation
A parent needed to relocate to London for work with two young children. We built a parenting plan the court could approve and obtained a final order in eleven weeks.
01
The challenge
Our client, a parent of two children aged five and eight, was offered a senior role in London that would double the family’s income. The other parent opposed the move and threatened a full custody trial.
A contested relocation in New York can take a year or more to reach a hearing. The job offer would not wait that long.

02
Our approach
Judges approve relocations that put the children first, so we built the plan around them, not the job.
01. Plan the children’s week
We set out schooling, healthcare and after-school care in London in detail, with letters from the schools.
02. Protect the other parent’s time
The plan gave the other parent every school holiday in New York, weekly video calls and flights paid by our client.
03. Bring in London counsel
Working with our London office, we arranged for the order to be recognised in England before the move.
“Sarah made sure the plan was about the children. That is why it worked.”

The outcome
Faced with a plan that protected his time with the children, the other parent consented. The court approved relocation with primary custody to our client and a structured holiday schedule, eleven weeks after filing.
